Installing Linux On My PC Leaving Windows Behind |
![]() |
I decided to make the move to Linux and leave Windows since Microsoft has taken control of my computer and will not let me use it when I want to.
I am a power user and need to have full control over my computer at all times. Windows 10 Home is like a virus and I am not going to pay Microsoft more money for their professional version just so I can use my own computer. Its like ransomware I feel. After my computer rebooting on me one too many times right in the middle of work, I am moving to Linux. I first tried Ubuntu 18.04 a while back on my home mini PC and I love it. I have since installed bionic beaver on two servers for DIY Tube Video Community. Now I decided to put it on my power laptop which processes my daily videos. This was a big decision because this computer is the one I use all the time. It has a core i7 CPU at 2.5 Ghz with 16 Gb RAM so it can handle the work. But I had to be able to get all my favorite programs on it. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 but I could not get internet going on it so I then installed Kubuntu which installed perfectly with no issues at all. Literally everything went very smoothly and quickly. In no time I had most of the favorite programs running and was copying my data back onto my hard drive. I even got my favorite PHP code editor notepad++ running now. This was another thing holding me back. For video processing I am using Kdenlive. And, to top it all off, Microsoft was using over 50Gb on my 110Gb SSD hard drive. Linux and my programs only use 10Gb. That leaves me with a lot more space to work with. I was always deleting files in order to use my computer every day. And with each Microsoft update my work space got smaller and smaller. I love Linux now and will most likely never go back to Microsoft.
