Power-packed Hurricane Lee was barreling Friday through open Atlantic waters east of the Caribbean as it briefly became season's first Category 5 storm. Just one day prior, Lee was a Category 1 storm, but it has intensified quickly in warm ocean water, doubling its wind speed Friday. While Lee could reach its peak intensity over the weekend, meteorologists still expect it to be a dangerous hurricane. The massive hurricane is following a west-northwest track, and early computer models suggest the storm to take a sharp turn to the north early next week, sparing a landfall on the Florida coast.
