Panel discussion on voting rights in Florida hosted by the Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab (WPHL) at FIU. WPHL faculty members Ana Menéndez and Julio Capó, Jr. moderate a lively discussion with prominent voices on the issue: Dexter Filkins (journalist for New York Times and Miami Herald; correspondent at New Yorker) and Melba Pearson (Director of policy and programs at the Center for the Administration of Justice at FIU; former Deputy Director of the ACLU of Florida). They all discuss voting rights history in Florida and many of the efforts that have led to voter suppression today, especially those targeting Black voters in the state. Recorded October 23, 2020.
