The U.S. vice presidential debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris kicked off with questions on the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Moderator Susan Page asked the vice president how the Trump administration expects the American people to follow guidelines when they themselves weren't following certain guidelines during an event at the White House that has since been labeled a potential "superspreader event" leading to multiple infections.

Pence did not directly reply to the question, but hailed the resilience of the American people in doing their part to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
