When I was heading down to the beach to enjoy the sunset, I didn’t feel like taking the big camera out. So instead I packed light with just the iPhone to see what sorts of seascape photos I could capture.

On this trip, I decided to use a new app that I recently discovered, called Spectre. https://spectre.cam

The app can be used hand-held thanks to its scene recognition technology and magical stabilisation. When it comes to seascapes, I always like to use a tripod, and an iPhone is no different. A tripod forces me to slow down and consider my composition. Plus I can take multiple images in the same position allowing to bracket scene which is handy when shooting into a setting sun. I mounted the iPhone to the tripod using a Glif clamp with an arca-swiss plate.

The camera on the iPhone X has a focal length of 28mm. I prefer a wide-angle when it comes to seascape so I can get plenty of interest in the foreground of the image. To widen the angle, I used an 18mm lens from Moment. These lenses are beautifully made, with quality materials, feeling solid and creating a sharp image.
