In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott announce a number of new measures aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) in the province. They are joined by Dr. David Williams (Ontario’s chief medical officer of health), Matthew Anderson (the president and CEO of Ontario Health), and Dr. Dirk Huyer (Ontario’s chief coroner and executive lead, COVID-19 Testing Approach).

The measures, which come as Ontario is reporting a single-day record of 732 new COVID-19 cases, include the mandatory use of face coverings in all indoor public spaces provincewide. In Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel Region, venues such as restaurants, gyms, and event facilities will be subject to lower indoor capacity limits and smaller maximum gathering sizes. Assessment centres throughout the province will move to appointment-based testing and discontinue walk-in testing services.
