What is LIGO, The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory |
![]() |
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is designed to open the field of gravitational-wave astrophysics through the direct detection of gravitational waves predicted by Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity. LIGO won the 2017 Nobel prize in Physics and you can see this beam splitter prototype will be on display at the Science Museum in 2018.
