After weeks of uncertainty surrounding the status of the Providence Marathon, the 2024 race is officially cancelled.

A marathon spokesperson says they were unable to secure an adequate route for the May 5th race citing unforeseen challenges including the Washington Bridge closure

"The safety and security of participants is our priority, and while we were unable to secure an adequate route this year, we hope to see everyone in 2025,” a Providence Marathon spokesperson said in a statement.
