Speakers: Roxana Geffen '95CC, Sheila Nevins '60BC, Mabel Wilson '91GSAPP Moderator: Christina Macchiarola '10CC, '13SOA Date: February 11th, 2018 Location: Satow, Lerner Hall, Columbia University Through cultural resistance, artists and creative warriors across industries challenge unjust systems at play in today's world. Their nonviolent, expressive movements reclaim our humanity and better our society through civic engagement, awareness, and education. A few of these leaders unpack how culture serves the resistance and empowers our communities. She Opened The Door is Columbia University’s First Women’s Conference. “She Opened the Door” is a tribute to Winifred Edgerton Merrill. She was the first woman to receive a degree from Columbia University, opening the door for women to gain admission to Columbia's graduate and professional Schools at a time when co-education for women was under heavy debate. The event celebrated our powerful network of women, whose Columbia connections broaden our impact in the world — personally and professionally.
