Vijay Devarakonda's Taxiwala (Taxiwaala) has registered bigger opening and made better collection than Ravi Teja's Amar Akbar Anthony (AAA) at the worldwide box office in the first weekend.
Taxiwala and Amar Akbar Anthony are among the much-talked-about Telugu movies of 2018. The two movies were slated to hit the screens on the same date and their clash had raised a lot of concerns over their opening day collection. Realizing the consequences, the makers of Taxiwala delayed its release by a day.Amar Akbar Anthony was expected to bring back the fallen glory of Ravi Teja and Srinu Vaitla. The movie was released in 750 screens on November 16 and opened to an average response. The film went on to collect Rs 6.70 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. Its collection is equal to that of Ravi Teja's flop film Nela Ticket, which also grossed Rs 6.70 crore on its opening day.Director Srinu Vaitla failed to impress the viewers and critics for the third time in a row and the negative word of mouth took a toll on its collection on the following days. As per early estimates, Amar Akbar Anthony has collected Rs 12 crore gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend. The film is estimated to have earned Rs 6 crore for its distributors, who spent Rs 22 crore on its theatrical rights.On the other hand, Taxiwala hit the screens on November 17 and opened to decent response at the ticket counters. The movie collected Rs 10 crore at the worldwide box office on the first day.
