Beginning in the mid-19th century, both China and Japan reformed their militaries based on western models with help from several western militaries, including the U.S. Part of the Ft. Leavenworth Series, Joseph G.D. Babb explored the role of foreign advisers as well as influence of the western way of war on China and Japan.
