Over the past eight years, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation has reduced the number of structurally deficient bridges by 12%.

The DOT says since RhodeWorks started in 2016, more than 270 structurally deficient bridges have been repaired or replaced.

But there are still 163 bridges across the state in poor condition.
