'Is Protest Music Dead?' - Don Letts, Never Not Nothing & Simone Odaranile Panel - MusicMadeUs

video thumbnail
A very special panel came together at Rough Trade East to discuss the question: is protest music dead? Featuring legendary artist, DJ and film director Don Letts, Simone Odaranile of the Go! Team, Space of Never Not Nothing and host Dr Jennifer Otter-Bickerdike, the panel talk about protest music as a tool for social change, how it’s changed throughout the decades and its relevance today. Plus, we open the floor to our audience who discuss current protest bands and the impact protest music has on society today.

Music has historically been the catalyst and soundtrack to inspire social and political change for centuries. But in today’s society, are protest songs dead when we arguably need them more than ever? Or, have music audiences and consumers moved on from this form of civil unrest, taking to social media, blogs and videos instead?

Our exclusive event is part of our #MusicMadeUs campaign, which explores, discusses and celebrates what music means to people, how it’s shaped our world – and how it’s made us who we are.
