The first thing we'll talk about is your psychology when it comes to investing. You’re the biggest reason you’ll make a huge mistake when it comes to investing money. Not because you’re a moron, but because you’re human and act more on emotion than logic. Humans are insanely irrational and do really dumb things with money that’s invested because emotion gets in the way of smart decisions. Next, we'll talk about investing for high returns. Investing to maximize your returns is a double-edged issue. When you invest money for high returns you’re taking on more risk. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you can’t stomach the potential losses that go along with riskier investments then it’s probably better to accept less risk and a lower return. Then we'll cover how your investing style doesn't work for everyone. I'll cover some of the most common issues that come up around this. After that, I'll go over the pitfalls that come with trying to time the stock market. This is one of the main reasons a lot of investors leave money on the sideline instead of putting it into the stock market. Waiting for that perfect purchase price is very difficult, if not impossible, to achieve. Then we'll talk about the problem with choosing what to invest in based on its past performance. We don't have a crystal ball so how in the heck should we know what the future holds for a stock or index fund we might want to invest in? The automatic thing to look at is how it performed in the past...but this is one of the worst things to look at. Then finally, we'll cover the importance of being patient when investing money in the stock market. It's the easiest mistake investors make on a regular basis. The more you look at your accounts the more you want to sell off investments when they're down. Affiliate Disclaimer: Some of the above may be affiliate links. Everyone's situation is different so do your own research before making any decisions with your money. If you need help then contact a Certified Financial Fiduciary before trying anything that is mentioned in this video. I prefer a Fiduciary financial advisor that charges an hourly fee as opposed to an ongoing fee based on a % of your portfolio. Always remember that incentives determine the type of advice they give you so one that charges an hourly fee is less likely to be problematic. #investing #investingmistakes #stockmarket |
