Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided an update on the province's COVID-19 cases and its ongoing response to the pandemic on Friday afternoon.
During the update, the premier and health officials said 107 new cases have been confirmed in the province along with five new deaths. That brings the total number of cases to 1,075 and 18 total deaths. Despite the new cases, Kenney says there was some reason for optimism as 196 cases have recovered and that they seemingly have enough equipment and personnel to deal with the pandemic. Over 60,000 COVID-19 tests have now been conducted in Alberta since the public health crisis began. Kenney said that equates to a testing rate of 13,600 per million people, which is higher than any other province.
