If the New Orleans Saints want to load up on starters at the top of this year's NFL Draft, trading back could be a creative way to do it. Since 2007, the Saints haven't done it, but this year's depth at key positions could change the trend.
Roman Harper, Jahri Evans, and Usama Young were trade back wins for the Saints back in 2006 and 2007, this year, the team could win by moving back again.
Opening the draft at 16 with a top prospect like Trevor Penning, Jameson Williams or Chris Olave would maximize their opportunity to move back from 19 and target other potential starters like Jaquan Brisker, Bernhard Raimann, and others. They could even walk away with a quarterback like Desmond Ridder without losing capital at other premium positions of need.
