With her coaching, mentoring and counselling Lynda helps expats overwhelmed by the language barrier, isolation and cultural differences.
Are you a young person moving abroad for the first time? Married with a career? A wife and mother juggling career and family? Coping with a bereavement? Struggling to find SEN support for your child? Lynda Brettle, the founder of Expat Mentors, has life coaching, counselling and social care certifications and a lot of life experience as an expat herself making her an ideal person to counsel and coach people in these situations. Originally from the southeast of England, Lynda served for over 20 years with the British Diplomatic Service with overseas postings in the Far East and South-East Asia, India and Pakistan, the South Pacific, West Africa and Latin America. When she left, Lynda settled in Spain with her husband to raise their two children and has since been heavily involved with the local expat community. Lynda opened a small language studio when she first arrived in Spain offering English as a foreign language. With so many arrivals from the UK, she changed track and started offering Spanish for beginners and opened a newcomers club giving advice. Her business has grown organically ever since. In 2020 Lynda published her first book Brains at the Border about the psychological and emotional impact of expatriate life around the world. 00:00 Introducing Lynda Brettle 00:55 Lynda's coaching journey 02:16 The differences between life coaching and mentoring 03:21 Why Lynda works particularly well with expats 04:36 The challenges which cause the biggest overwhelm when relocating 05:35 Do your homework before moving 06:34 National mental health charity The Samaritans in Spain 07:37 Best way to contact The Samaritans 08:50 Energy healing, emotion code and body code techniques 11:58 What can be treated by emotion and body code techniques 13:00 About Lynda's book 18:09 Website and contact details for Expat Mentors *** MUMABROAD MumAbroad was founded in 2007 as a resource for expat mums who struggled without the support of their extended family.
