China has played a rising role among global powers with an expansion of its national interests. However, COVID-19 and the shifting balance in power has created an opportunity for small and medium powers to increase their role in the region. In addition to this, there are novel security threats in non-traditional spaces, particularly digital spaces as a field of political warfare and disinformation. Given this, there must be a whole of nation approach, strategic partnership building, and a strengthening of partnerships as we move forward in the face of the crisis.
