David Greene was an accomplished film director, and producer, who was born in Manchester on February 22, 1921. He started his career as an actor, but eventually moved into directing, working on both sides of the Atlantic. He found his greatest success in television, winning four Emmy Awards for his work on shows such as Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man. Greene directed and produced over 40 TV movies and miniseries, becoming one of the highest-paid producer-directors in Hollywood during the 1970s. He also reworked classic movies for TV, including Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Inherit the Wind. David Greene died on April 7, 2003, in Ojai, California, leaving behind three sons and one daughter.
