Puddles Pity Party, Where is My Mind, Under Pressure, Come Sail Away, If I Can Dream, Royals

Puddles new tour lineup features more audience participation than before. The audience members are great and almost always play along, even if they don’t know what’s going to happen. In future videos you will see some real characters.

Where is My Mind, written by Black Francis and originally performed by the Pixies is one of the highlights of the show for me (Oh heck, every song he does is a highlight). As is typical of his process, he strips a song down then rebuilds it into something new.

Under Pressure / Let it Go, is another Smoosh-up that doesn’t look like it should work, but it does. Puddles loves him some Bowie (if you haven’t yet noticed), and he also seamlessly brings out some Freddy Mercury mannerisms in this performance. Puddles has written in interviews that Under Pressure is central to the message that he wants to convey, and beyond the comedy is that message that we may only have one more chance to make this world a better place. Puddles chose a lovely young man to help him out. Being the reason that we were there, I mostly keep the camera on Puddles, but I try to catch some of the audience participants as best that I can. Under Pressure was written by the members of Queen and recorded with David Bowie. Let it Go was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for the Disney movie, Frozen.

One More chance / If you build it #2: Puddles brings back his helper to try to summon his hero. This time we get the right Keven, much to Puddles’ delight. As I wrote in the other video, don’t try to understand Puddles’ love of Kevin, just enjoy it.

Come Sail Away / Let It Go. Puddles displays photos from his scrapbook of him with friends. Some are always there; some are changed out often. I go to the shows to see Puddles, so when people around me draw attention that I’m up there, I’m always at a loss, but I am honored to have been up there with him. Puddles enlists some folks to help him out as his band, including his guitarist from Crazy Train. Generally, Puddles ends the show here, sometimes coming back for an encore, but this time he and his band decided to dance the night away. He then barely stepped off stage before coming back for more. Come sail away was written by Dennis DeYoung and originally performed by Styx.

Puddles has a great love of Elvis, and his voice is perfectly suited for those lovely ballads. If I Can Dream was written by Walter Earl Brown, and made famous by Elvis Presley. When I see Puddles perform it and hear those words, I have a hard time remembering that this song wasn’t written specifically for Puddles.

Royals was a big turning point for Puddles’ career. He performed this song in a Post-Modern Jukebox video, released on October 31, 2013 and it has gotten millions upon millions of hits. This song brought Puddles from a little-known niche performer who opened for other bands to the forefront, where he belongs. Royals was written by Lorde and Joel Little and originally performed by Lorde.
