Christian Inga, the migrant accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at Kissena Park in Queens last week, made his first appearance in a New York City court.

Inga is charged with A2 felony for sexual assault. He videotaped the sexual encounter with the 13-year-old and admitted to committing the crime, according to the district attorney. Inga is being held in custody without bail, he's due back in court July 1st.

Authorities say Inga crossed the border illegally through Eagle Pass in 2021. He had no prior arrests in NYC, but was arrested in Texas.

Community members who live in the same Queens migrant shelter as Inga identified him as the suspect in the Kissena Park assault and called the police. In a video, he is seen squirming as residents try to hold him down.

"He fought with them and the community still managed to hold on there," Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.

The attack happened on June 13th, around 3:30 p.m. in Kissena Park, in the Flushing section of Queens. Police say two friends – a 13-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl – were playing in the park when a man approached. Authorities say the man showed them a knife and forced them into a wooded area. He tied them up, took their cell phones and sexually assaulted the girl before fleeing, police said.

LiveNOW's Carel Lajara spoke about Inga's court appearance with FOX 5 NY reporter Richard Giacovas.
