https://bit.ly/4e02FnD Hello everyone! Welcome to studio vlog 026! In this month's vlog you will get a glimpse into me trying to get back into the groove of work post New Year. I have a lot going on between freelance work, designing for my shop and creating courses for skillshare all on top of teaching at the University and being a mom. Life's been hectic, I'm just trying to juggle it all and in this video you get glimpses of all of that plus some hilarious footage of me building some office furniture - cause aesthetics man..... I also talk a bit about March Meet the Maker and the post about a work in progress and the importance of realizing we are all works in progress and that is ok. I also highlight some of the volunteer work I do as well as the activism I am involved in with the Debt Collective. February was a tough month dealing with some very angry people who don't like the work we are doing at the Debt Collective and who took it upon themselves to try and cyber bully me after U shared my story with CNBC, BUT I ain't taking no crap. Even if it hurt my feelings just a bit - cause well, I am fighting for them too after all. I talk about the importance of design for good and how I am applying that concept with the work I do at The Debt Collective and with the amazing Art + Design workgroup of people I am honored to be a part of. I learned a lot this past two months - mostly that, it is ok to take time to process painful things and that when you believe in something - even the fear of others judging it or hating you for it won't push you away from the journey of fighting for it. If you want to learn more about the amazing work The Debt Collective is doing - you can learn more at the following links: https://debtcollective.org https://biden100.debtcollective.org If you want to join in the week of action - you can find a local protest in your area or plan one and register it here: https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/cancel-all-student-loan-debt-week-of-action?fbclid=IwAR1dz2H0FBsKCkqNc_C5jpNh8bWA2HilUPvuHGLYCTIJpU6rmW7_jumnZQA Also - I know there is a lot going on in the world. The horrible shootings in Atlanta occurred before this was filmed. To say my heart breaks for the families of those affected in an understatement. I can't imagine their pain. Unfortunately, I know all too well the racism and discriminatory undertones and the hate that led to them. My family is not only part of the Latinx Community, but we are also a part of the AAPI community (my partner is Filipino and our daughter is as well in addition to Mexican and Puerto Rican) and even if we were not, I would still be in support - I wanted to note that I fully support the movement that is going on to StopAsianHate. All of us in the BIPOC communities must continue to come together to overcome white supremacy. If you can make a donation - make sure you check out the AAPI verified fundraisers to help those affected by the Atlanta-area spa shootings: http://gofundme.com/AAPI Take care -- Jen WANT TO CONNECT OR HIRE ME? P.O. Box 9658 Naperville, IL 60567-9658 ABOUT ME Welcome to the Freelance Life! I'm Jen - A Latinx mom of 2, based out of Chicago. Despite hardships growing up, I attended art school as a first generation student. With a career journey in fashion, design, illustration & digital media, I've come to merge my creative passions into the work I do as a freelancer and teacher . I've had to learn a lot over the years as a creative adding in video production to my arsenal during my time running Halfstack Magazine (you can see past videos on this channel still). I have a BA with a focus in Fashion, Design & Production. I graduated from Benedictine University's MBA graduate program focused in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management in 2011. When I am not freelancing or creating, I can be found teaching in the fashion departments at local universities and colleges in the Chicagoland area as well as on Skillshare! I look to inspire others as much as I look to be inspired! Let's create something great together! |
