The Israeli police this morning detained a Turkish woman and two other Palestinians at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, in Jerusalem’s Old City, according to local sources.
They said police detained a 24-year-old Turkish woman when she was trying to pray at Bab al-Rahmeh prayer area inside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound after she refused to leave the area.
When a Palestinian man working as a guard at the Mosque intervened to help the woman, police arrested him also after assaulting him, said the sources.
The Turkish woman was taken to the Russian compound police station in West Jerusalem where she was held for several hours before she was released.
At the same time, police detained a Palestinian man from the town of Qalanswa, inside Israel, when he arrived at one of the gates to Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform prayers under the pretext he violated an order banning him from being at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Meanwhile, police detained another Palestinian outside the Magistrate Court in West Jerusalem after assaulting him and severely beating him during a gathering for people and journalists outside the courthouse to show solidarity with another Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem who was supposed to appear at the court for his political activism. The trial was nevertheless postponed until next week.
