Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressed the Canadian parliament on Friday, giving thanks for continued support and calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “genocide.” This was his second address to the Parliament since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, and was met with a standing ovation.
“I urge you — Canada — to extend your ability to lead other countries, especially in this matter of justice,” Zelenskyy said. “And most of all, I would like to thank you… for making Ukrainians feel at home when they are here in Canada.” “You were able to be here in person to speak about the fight for your democracy and your freedom, and you do it to remind us that in your country, Russia continues its assault and Ukrainians are sacrificing their lives,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. During his previous virtual address in March of that year, Zelenskyy had requested NATO to impose a no-fly zone and appealed for cash to help with humanitarian efforts.
