On The Freedom Side LIVE, Thursday, 1/18 at 3pm ET/12pm PT, Eugene and Rania are joined by special guests:
Yousef Mawry - After carrying out US strikes on Yemen this week in retaliation for their solidarity with Palestine, the Biden administration announced that it is once again designating Yemen’s Ansar Allah (also called the Houthis) as a “terrorist” organization. The impacts of Ansar Allah’s embargo of all ships traveling to Israel in order to stop material reinforcements for Israel’s genocidal war are far-reaching. The embargo has financially impacted 20% of global trade and revenues at Israel’s key Eliat port has fallen by 80%. Despite the US attacks, Ansar Allah has vowed not to stop until Israel ends the genocide and lifts the siege on Gaza. Yousef Mawry, a journalist and a political analyst based in Yemen, discusses the attacks on Yemen and the escalation ladder of a wider regional war. Dr. Shahd Abusalama - Over 100 days into the US-backed genocide in Gaza, Israel has killed over 24,400 Palestinian people. Entire generations of Palestinian families have been killed by Israeli airstrikes and the relentless bombardment of Gaza has brought cataclysmic suffering to the people of Gaza who were already enduring a dire humanitarian crisis. Joining the show is Dr. Shahd Abusalama, an activist and educator from the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza who has lost 24 family members in the genocide, to discuss the role of the diaspora in the fight for Palestinian liberation. Dr. Anis Germany - Israel continues to use hunger as a weapon to collectively punish and torture Palestinians. After three months of Israel’s blockade of food, water, and fuel supplies into Gaza, Palestinians in Gaza now comprise 80% of the world’s people facing extreme hunger. Dr. Anis Germany, a Lebanese medical doctor and public health researcher, joins the show to discuss how Israel has created a severe humanitarian crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip. Dr. Sidgi Kaballo - As the civil war in Sudan enters its tenth month, the country is falling into an a deeper humanitarian crisis. The conflict, which began in April 2023 over an internal struggle for power between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has displaced over 7 million people and killed more than 12,000. Economist and Sudanese Communist Party leader, Dr. Sidgi Kaballo, discusses the consequences of the conflict, the possibility for peace, and the role of Empire in fueling the violence. #BreakThroughNews |
