17. Is This The World We Created? (Queen-Live In Slane: 7/5/1986) |

I have read comments on Youtube--saying that the Irish crowds love to have good times at rock concerts! This recording emphasizes that statement: There were approximately 100,000 people attending this concert, and with that many people attending a show--you're bound for some craziness! From what I have been reading, many concert attendees were intoxicated and threw various objects at the bands playing on the stage (opening acts and Queen). There was also a steady rainfall throughout the day--perhaps fueling some bad atmosphere! I also have read that someone got on the stage and ran at Freddie, but Freddie simply put his arm around him--and led him to the waiting security staff! Throughout the show, Freddie tries to calm the chaotic atmosphere down (often pleading with the audience or making positive remarks about the crowd). This recording is slightly damaged (some songs have unstable speed, random cuts, static, etc), but it's mostly complete with good quality overall. Freddie's voice has recovered from Zurich's madness (where he had trouble singing into the 4th octave), and sounds pretty good overall (albeit with some strain/roughness on his higher register). He delivers good renditions of "Tie Your Mother Down," "Tear It Up," "A Kind Of Magic," "Under Pressure," "Another One Bites The Dust," "Is This The World We Created," and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Despite the chaotic atmosphere, the band performances are great!
ENJOY!!! Note: Freddie sternly addresses troublemakers after "Seven Seas Of Rhye." He then tries to lighten up the atmosphere with a vocal improvisation! Note 2: Brian completely makes up chords in the beginning of "Now I'm Here." Note 3: Brian says that this concert contained some of his worst-ever concert moments (like getting hit by a beer can). Note 4: There's no encore break between "Radio Ga Ga," and "We Will Rock You" (to speed up the show). |
