Autism in Our World: They're People Too

video thumbnail
Recently my two children with autism have been having trouble making and keeping friends. As their long time friends grew up they began asking me, “Why’s Joey so weird?” “Why does Joey like to wear dresses?” and “Why does Maggie prefer boy things?” Also, I feel that people and organizations have been spreading the wrong message about autism. Individuals with autism are people too. So I wanted to show the loving, caring, and fun side of autism because it’s not all bad. They are people too and they deserve to be treated as such. So I decided to show, in my video, that autism is only a part of who they are and that there is so much more to it than meltdowns and therapy.
