During a press conference, Mayor Eric Adams announced that the New York Police Department (NYPD) will be resuming the use of Boston Dynamics robots, specifically the Digidog robot dog, for hazardous situations such as
conducting checks and monitoring construction sites. Previously, the NYPD had terminated its contract with Boston Dynamics due to concerns about surveillance. The Digidog will only be used for life-threatening situations, such as the
threat of an explosion, and the police also announced the testing of two other security technologies that do not use facial recognition technology. The NYPD's implementation of these technologies will be transparent, consistent, and always done in collaboration with the people they serve, according to New York Police Commissioner Keenan Sewell.
