This is a sociological analysis of the issues of race that underlie the current problems with the quality of the Boston Public Schools. Despite innovative efforts like the new rezoning plans, we argue that the fundamental factor affecting school quality is integrally tied to race and the history of systematic oppression and segregation in Boston - but no one is talking about it.
