"It's less about creating a perfect object and more about creating an environment for people."

Architect Caroline Bos is interested in the effects architecture and design have on the everyday human experience. The increasing occurrence of extreme natural events and terrorist activity have created a rising need for disaster preparedness and response. When designing Arnhem Centraal, a train station the Netherlands, design considerations such as evacuation routes and perceived safety were at the forefront of many decisions. She expressed the importance of examining the challenges and opportunities we face in architecture and urban planning to design future cities that are functional, sustainable, resilient, and above all else, safe, for generations to come.

Caroline Bos is a Dutch urban planner and co-founder of Amsterdam-based architectural design practice UNStudio. We spoke with her at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, Czech Republic.
