To keep the video more concise I didn't mention manga exclusive or Tokusatsu works but if you're interested some titles worth looking into are George Akiyama's The Moon (1972) which was not adapted into an anime, Astroganger (1972) the first color mecha anime premiering a few months before Mazinger but is animated by Knack productions, Daitetsujin 17 (1977) a mecha tokusatsu by Ishinomori and the first giant robot work I could find to utilize a military backdrop.
