Section three of the 25th Amendment lays out a temporary transition that allows the president to give the vice president power until the president deems himself fit to reclaim authority. The measure was adopted after John F. Kennedy’s assassination and used by George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan when they had planned medical procedures.
