Charlotte severe weather update with Brittany Van Voorhees: Weather IQ |
![]() |
The Charlotte area could see strong thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and hail Monday afternoon and evening, Brad Panovich said. In this video, meteorologist Brittany Van Voorhees will have the latest severe weather update for Charlotte and the Carolinas.
Panovich said the timing of Monday's storms will be from 5 p.m. until around 9 p.m., as the system pushes east over the North Carolina mountains toward Charlotte. Panovich says the late afternoon timing will create prime conditions for severe weather. "Later this afternoon in the heating of the day, I do expect a pretty good chance of some organized severe storms," Panovich said. "That means either bowing segments, some kind of line or maybe even some supercells. The tornado threat is not zero today. "It's not super high, but for a summer setup, it's about a 1% probability. I really think the main concern is going to be damaging straight-line winds."
