Morning news and weather cut-in, taken during Good Morning America on KSTP-TV, the ABC affiliate covering the Twin Cities region of Minnesota centered on Minneapolis and St. Paul, recorded on Monday, March 22, 2021.

It was just brought to my attention that KSTP launched new graphics (and it sounds like they commissioned new updates, again, to Icon News). They made the move at 5pm on Saturday, March 20th.

I would've tried to have had something up sooner had I known. Since WXXV's launching today and I've had that planned for a while now, that's who's getting recorded by me today. But I'll try to squeeze KSTP in later if I can. Later in the week I'll get the complete complement of opens from them. I normally wouldn't upload an update by itself, but because of the WXXV thing, hopefully this will hold you all over for now.

But for now, enjoy this morning news update, which gives you a brief, but good look at the new look and sound of 5 Eyewitness News. In my opinion, KSTP has the best newscast in the Twin Cities, and this elevates them even more. They picked the perfect time to make the change too. A major news story is happening right in their backyard right now (Chauvin trial), and some out-of-town people interested in the trial might want to to check out the local coverage through livestreams, as well as the local audience who normally wouldn't watch local news. So it makes sense to refresh your brand for the potential eyeballs.

KSTP moves from a blue and yellow scheme to a red, black and white one again. At least they retained the longtime groovy 5, even if it's in a box now.

Anchored by Chris Egert with weather from chief meteorologist Ken Barlow and traffic anchor Sam Ryan.
