2/12/1981 Jets at Rangers (complete) |
|
Another high scoring game that saw the Rangers dominate the hapless expansion Winnipeg Jets at MSG, outshooting them 40-15 after two periods and 55-26 overall. But despite a road record of 2-23-3, the Jets kept this game close thanks to Finnish goalie Marcus Mattson, and a hat-trick from 1980 Miracle on Ice member Dave Christian. The Rangers were only leading 4-3 after two periods, despite the lopsided shot total!
Eddie Johnstone 2g-2a 4pts lead the Rangers. Rangers MSG broadcast, decent quality. This game really shows how the NHL has changed due to the goalie's equipment being so much bigger now. Mattson was 6ft 0in and 180 lbs, but he looks tiny compared to goalies today. Hardly any upper body/shoulder padding at all, he looks like a defenseman wearing goalie leg pads.
