Relatives cried for their loved ones as the bodies of those killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza were brought out of a hospital in the central city of Deir al-Balah.
Israel has continued to hit the territory from the air as it prepares to launch a ground offensive against Hamas militants in the north. People have crowded into already overwhelmed hospitals and schools, seeking shelter as food and water run low. The Gaza Health Ministry said the death toll of Palestinians since the latest Israel-Hamas war erupted had surpassed 2,600 people. During an emergency government meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country's soldiers were "ready for action" and they would "tear Hamas apart".
