Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided an update on the most recent cases of COVID-19 in the province on Monday and discussed the province's ongoing response to the pandemic.
Hinshaw reported 47 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the province to 6,253. She said that while there are still cases of community transmission, she is confident in Albertans moving forward with provincial reopening plans. “Much of the province has been successful at flattening the curve,” Hinshaw said. “I am encouraged to see fewer daily cases.” She also reported two new deaths, both in continuing care facilities. The total number of fatalities in Alberta remains at 117, as Hinshaw stated that two previous deaths that were thought to be due to COVID-19 have now been found to be unrelated.
