Fatty liver disease is of two types, alcoholic fatty liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Alcoholic fatty liver disease develops due to the consumption of alcohol and Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease develops due to other factors.
Obesity is one of the important cause of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Other causes of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease are diabetes especially uncontrolled diabetes age more than 50 years, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, infections especially liver infections like Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B.
In females, PCOD and pregnancy increase the risk of fatty liver disease.
Steroids, valproic acid, and anticancer drugs like methotrexate, tamoxifen, azathioprine, they all increase the risk of fatty liver disease.

Stages of fatty liver disease
So there are four stages of fatty liver disease:
1. simple fatty liver or simple steatosis
2. steatohepatitis
3. Fibrosis
4. Cirrhosis

Complications of fatty liver disease are cancer and even liver failure

Symptoms of fatty liver disease.
In the majority of patients, fatty liver disease is asymptomatic patients do not feel any symptoms.
But some patients may feel heaviness or pain on the right side of the abdomen and they may also feel fatigued and weakness.

Now we will talk about the investigations/ lab tests required to diagnose fatty liver disease.
They include USG that is ultrasonography, liver function tests thyroid profile, lipid profile, diabetic profile.
Also, the test for hepatitis B and Hepatitis C is done.
Fibroscan also is known as transient elastography (TES), CT scan of abdomen and liver biopsy is done

Last we will discuss the treatment.
First, we will discuss weight management. Patients should lose weight and maintained an ideal BMI.
And tips for weight loss or weight management for diabetic patients I have discussed in a video and I am sharing the link of that video. Also, you should not lose weight rapidly.

Restrict your carbohydrate intake and exercise daily. you should exercise 25 to 30 minutes every day. In exercises, you can do moderate-intensity aerobic activity, and moderate-intensity aerobic activity includes cycling, dancing, brisk walking, and swimming

Patients can also take medicines to reverse fatty liver and these medicines include Vitamin E, Omega 3 fatty acids, pioglitazone, GLP 1 agonist like exenatide, liraglutide, and statins like atorvastatin, rosuvastatin.
Metformin, UDCA (Ursodeoxycholic acid), and Obticholic acid are not recommended

Also, Bariatric surgery has been found to cure Fatty Liver disease
