Bleeding after hemorroidectomy is a very important question and very nagging condition for the patient as well as for the surgeon. So I will explain hemorrhoidectomy. It is removal of the piles completely cut off the piles which are there. We rarely do hemorrhoidectomy as a procedure nowadays. So there are different methods to take care of piles so removal of this one will cause wounds there and because there are wounds in the anal canal just at the opening. So whenever the patient passes motion there is always a possibility of that wounds getting opened up are we the vessels which were tied getting opened up and cause lot of bleeding. Mild bleeding is not uncommon after hemorrhoidectomy. But severe bleeding is also not uncommon if it is not done properly or postoperatively if the motions are very hard and patient is applying lot of pressure, then it can be torrential bleeding and very fearsome bleeding. So that's why nowadays we hardly do a hemorrhoidectomy per se we have something called Doppler Guided Hemorrhoidal Ligation. We have got a laser treatment for hemorrhoids all that which will reduce the post-operative Hemorrhage to almost till. Extremely rarely we get post-operative bleeding after hemorrhoidal surgery. So very mild bleeding can happen after any surgery in that area usually about two to three weeks one can have mild bleeding that doesn't matter and it will heal by itself but severe bleeding should not be happening in modern day surgery. We have to take all the measures to avoid occasionally if it happens we must know how to tackle it and how to stop it.
