A beginners guide to oil painting by a beginner-Help with analysis paralysis-PART 2 |

NOTE: For the big-picture of this information, please watch PART 1 first. If you live on the edge, you can watch PART 2 first.
These are the same links I shared on PART 1: A concept I felt I didn't convey enough in this video: Don't pressure yourself to make “A PAINTING” the first time you sit/stand to paint. We need to focus on making marks and experimenting right now-- Like doodling while you're waiting on hold. Experiment mixing paint with your solvent (if you got it)... your walnut oil/linseed oil-- I feel that every one of these videos is worth watching. It's also good to watch these earlier ones more than once. I think this is a good first vid to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKuzi4DGE84&list=LL&index=42&ab_channel=PaintCoach Good info and she addresses any health concerns. Don't get wrapped up in all she says about mediums! Also has an inspirational message at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4BYGrn7ACM&list=LL&index=43&ab_channel=LenaDanya I like how this girl doesn't over-complicate things. Again, don't think about mediums now (liquin..etc) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYdyzUAIThU&list=LL&index=11&ab_channel=HalieTorris A very good video! More info about brushes in here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGgNPAJOF0g&list=LL&index=8&ab_channel=Mr.OtterArtStudio Guenevere talks about a few brands of paint and likes “Georgian” over Winton because Georgian is smoother-- Winton is stiffer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IcDt8bYfdU&list=LL&index=30&ab_channel=GuenevereSchwien This is an informative video and a great message about starting with cheaper paints- This one probably has my favorite message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSzqT7ERwuw&list=LL&index=15&ab_channel=ErikEng Chris explains a basic concept about using oil paints in these two vids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WzN2pz4Pk4&ab_channel=PaintCoach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kshCks7warI&t=68s&ab_channel=PaintCoach This is an example of the type of stuff you could try now. She uses black and white, but you can do the same thing with white and any other dark color. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjI3YcDgU7s&list=LL&index=9&ab_channel=Mr.OtterArtStudio You could also do something small. This is a good vid of Chloe doing her first oil painting. The comment thread of “Maria Rev” are informative as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL2S4wd3SLg&list=LL&index=42&ab_channel=ChloeRoseArt A great and cool example of something abstract you could create with one color: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lZkToR1I4&ab_channel=DanTirels Jose Trujillo He only uses walnut oil and paint. He is also using W&N-Winton in this vid. It's interesting to hear his perspective and see part of his routine here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O5WmqqYtBg&list=LL&index=40&ab_channel=JoseTrujillo This is an example of abstract stuff that you can do with a palette knife: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKR7hkzbFHo&ab_channel=JoseTrujillo Stuart Davies I've learned a lot from this artist. He also does not use a solvent (Gamsol....or turpentine...etc) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRGNa3XWn3Q&list=LL&index=8&ab_channel=StuartDavies A perfect example of what you can do with a few(?) colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlLhJ9qvxew&ab_channel=StuartDavies This is Stuart's most watched video. You will see at the beginning he adds linseed oil to his paint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jffJeeXaVQ&ab_channel=StuartDavies These look like the brushes he uses.. although I don't know if they are the exact ones. https://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-industrial-grade-chip-brushes-36-pc-63654.html?_br_psugg_q=chip+brush Ahuva Shweiki If you like florals, this is something you could try with your palette knife: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J9Hobk1tdw&list=LL&index=1&t=340s&ab_channel=AhuvaShweiki Some channels and additional info for your pleasure: A good channel for your leisure/reference: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn_MddC5zEAD-rh3IjeYIrw/featured This artist uses a style that I like- A lot of palette knife stuff: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTen32MLA_CbfSH2SuMEdNw Another good channel. This guy uses a lot of budget friendly paints: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGi1KT0bhNc78i01qKvGWUA This guy is who taught Bob Ross. He is funny. I would watch him on PBS in the mornings after I watched Price as Right as a kid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK7w_3PFkCA&ab_channel=AlexanderArt-TheHomeofBillAlexander Jerry's artarama channel has some good information: https://www.youtube.com/user/JerrysArtarama Oil paint on sale at Jerry's: https://www.jerrysartarama.com/on-sale?cat=211 This is the canvas pad I got (12x16).
