As Russian President Vladimir Putin unleashes its attack on Ukraine, people across the country are scrambling to leave or face getting caught in the crossfire. Crystal Goomansingh explains how some Ukrainians are willing to stay behind and take up arms, and what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is telling his nation.

With the invasion underway, Western nations are also hitting back with tougher economic sanctions. Jackson Proskow looks at what Moscow won't be allowed to do, what sectors of its economy remain unscathed, and how there's a debate among the West about what action to take.

Canada has also hit Russia with more sanctions following the Kremlin's attack on Ukraine. Dawna Friesen speaks with Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly on the steps Canada is taking and not taking, and Mercedes Stephenson analyzes Ottawa's response.

Canadian journalist Neil Haus, who is in Kyiv, speaks about the situation in Ukraine's capital, and what people there fear the most.

Plus, will the slew of sanctions on Russia really make a difference? Jeff Semple explains the doubts, and why some possible measures could bring consequences for Western nations.

Also, how is Russian President Vladimir Putin justifying his bloody invasion of Ukraine? Eric Sorensen explains what geopolitical motives may be driving Putin's actions, whether his campaign will go beyond Ukraine, and how this mission could backfire.

And as casualties rise and countless lives remain in jeopardy amid Russia's invasion, people around the world are also rallying in solidarity for Ukraine. Mike Armstrong reports.
