Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju released last week, and when all aspects of Sanjay Dutt's life have been incorporated in the biopic, fans couldn't see any reference to his rumoured relationship with Madhuri Dixit. It is no secret that back in the early 90s, rumours of their affair spread like wildfire.

If films like Saajan and Khalnayak were establishing them as one of the most popular on-screen jodis, their off-screen romance was also grabbing eyeballs.

However, the two never openly admitted to having an affair.

If a report in Pinkvilla is to be believed, the makers of Sanju had included one fleeting reference of the Dhak-Dhak Girl in the film, but on her request, it has been deleted from the final cut.

"Hirani had shot one scene where Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt makes a call to this 90s actress just when he is arrested. But the call is received by the actress mother who tells the actor that the lady doesnt want any association with him and that henceforth he shouldnt call her up. This was a fleeting reference to Madhuri Dixit. Dutt, when got arrested in 1993, was allowed to make a phone call by the then Police officer," a source told the entertainment portal.

"Needless to say he had made it to Dixit, who disassociated herself from the man. This scene was retained in the film until the actress got to know. She again spoke to the director and insisted that no reference to her should be there in the Movie. That is when Hirani edited this scene in the final cut of the movie," added the source.

In the biopic, Sonam Kapoor will essay the role of one of the many women that he had dated back in the day.

Sanju, which also stars Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza and Manisha Koirala, will hit the screens on June 29.
