Berlin Bismarckstrasse, walking tour
The route of the Bismarckstrasse was already created with the design of the Großer Tiergarten in the 17th century. In the 19th century the road was called Mühlenweg because of several adjacent grist mills. The later Charlottenburger Chaussee (since 1953: Straße des 17. Juni) continued in a straight line to the east. A path to the west continued northwest of the Lietzensee to the Havel crossing at the Pichelsberge. In the 18th century this path lost its importance, the routes to Spandau via Spandauer Straße and Potsdam had been extended and were more convenient.
