India election 2024: 18 million first-time voters in India | BBC News

As India’s general election is underway the BBC’s has been speaking with influential voting blocs, amongst them more than 18 million first time voters heading to the polls.

The country’s general election, which is being held over six weeks between 19 April and 1 June, is the biggest the world has ever seen.

With 1.4 billion people, India is the world’s most populous country and 969 million of its citizens are eligible to cast their ballot.
