The Mandalorian Season 3 returns to Disney+ in 2022, with filming set to begin in April of this year according to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Before then, we can expect the Book of Boba Fett and Star Wars: The Bad Batch which will come out on Star Wars Day, May 4th!

In today's Star Wars News Update, we discuss Luke Skywalker and how after his cameo appearance at the end of the Mandalorian Season 2 finale (Chapter 16 - The Rescue), he might be getting his own spin-off series which is set after Return of the Jedi and before the Force Awakens. It could tie into the Mandalorian Season 3 when Grogu - Baby Yoda is eventually separated from Jedi Master Skywalker and fill in the gaps of what Luke was up to before he became a recluse on Ahch-To Island as we saw in the Sequel Trilogy - particularly in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi.

When the Mandalorian Season 2 ended, Lucasfilm and Disney+ realised they’d have to show the continuation of Grogu and Luke somehow in the Mandalorian Season 3 without having it intercede with the focal character Din Djarin (Mando - Pedro Pascal) and what the show the Mandalorian is all about. As such, they’re going to make the Luke Skywalker series which will show Luke’s journey after the Battle of Endor and his adventures up until he got to Moff Gideon’s light cruiser to save Grogu. The series will then overlap with the Mandalorian in a future season and somehow, Grogu and Luke will be separated which brings Grogu back into the Mandalorian or even the Ahsoka Tano spin-off series with Rosario Dawson. That way the Mandalorian Season 3 will just focus on the Darksaber storyline with Din and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) as they reclaim the cursed planet of Mandalore and Grogu’s story is put on hold in the meantime. Sebastian Stan should play Luke or they should improve the CGI Mark Hamill version we saw in Mando.

We also discuss Daisy Ridley who has spoken about the differences between her character Rey Skywalker and Grogu in terms of force-healing abilities. Finally, we look at Star Wars: The Bad Batch and speculation for the upcoming Clone Wars spin-off series - everything we can expect as well as things to know. After Gina Carano was fired from Lucasfilm by Disney, a lot of Star Wars fans have been proclaiming that Star Wars is dead with anti- Disney+ sentiments. But it isn't and the Star Wars franchise as well as The Mandalorian will recover as a series. The Mandalorian Season 3 will be amazing and now that Cara Dune will be killed off, new characters as well as smaller ones from the show could become Mando's new allies. Din Djarin - Pedro Pascal - currently wields the Darksaber and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) wants it. With Grogu (Baby Yoda - The Child) out of the picture for the time being since he is training with Luke Skywalker, it could be time for heroes such as Greef Karga, Cobb Vanth, Boba Fett, Migs Mayfeld and Koska Reeves to have the spotlight and help Mando to take on Moff Gideon and the Imperial Remnant in light of the upcoming rise of the First Order.
