Beyond Britain: Brexit’s Impact on the U.S., Northern Ireland, and the International Community

video thumbnail
Much has been said about the effect Brexit has had on the relationship between the U.K. and the E.U., but it has also had far-reaching economic, political, and security consequences. How has Brexit impacted the trade relationships between the U.S. and the U.K. and between the U.S. and the E.U.? What does the success of Brexit portend for other potential political divorces, such as in Scotland and Catalonia? And what of the “Irish Question?” With protests in Northern Ireland and the resignation of their First Minister earlier this month, how has Brexit changed both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland? In this month’s installment of FPRI’s Main Line Breifings, John Nagl will be joined by FPRI’s Conor Donnan and Ronald J. Granieri to discuss the many un-talked-about effects of Brexit.

FPRI’s Main Line Briefings are a series of discussions on global affairs and national security hosted by Dr. John Nagl, the ninth Head of the Haverford School. Dr. Nagl is a Senior Fellow with FPRI’s National Security Program and a member of FPRI’s Board of Advisors. A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, Nagl was part of the writing team that produced the U.S. Army/Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual. In this series, Dr. Nagl will draw on FPRI’s vast network of scholars and outside experts to highlight their voices and insight on world affairs, global engagement, and foreign policy. This series is co-Chaired by James Gately, John Piasecki, and Eileen Rosenau.
