COVID-19 cases in Sacramento County appear to begin declining following statewide trend |

Just over 15% of Sacramento County's population has tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The city of Sacramento has the highest number of cases and deaths in the county since the pandemic began, followed by Elk Grove and Citrus Heights. Since the rise of omicron variant cases caused record highs, that trend appears to be on a downward trend, also reflected in statewide numbers. This comes after the omicron variant fueled a post-holiday surge in cases. As of Monday, 62,000 new infections were reported, and the state's positivity rate is at 20.4%, a minimal decrease compared to recent weeks.
