The French 1896 Cavalry Sabre was one of the last to be produced by the French Army for active duty.
While the hilt is very solid and well-designed, the blade prooved to be too fragile to withstand combat, so it was eventually recalled, and the 1896 Sabre ended its career with a less than glamorous reputation.
