노벨물리학상,'중력파' 킵손•라이너 바이스 등 3명 공동수상
The Nobel Prize in physics has been awarded to three American scientists for the discovery of gravitational waves... first predicted by Albert Einstein a hundred years ago.
The Nobel committee recognized Rainer Weiss, Barry Barish and Kip Thorne for their "decisive contributions to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or LIGO, detector and the observation of gravitational waves."
The first observation was made in September 2015... of a collision between two black holes 1-point-3 billion years ago .
Studying gravitational waves will allow astronomers to observe the inner workings of objects that don't emit light, such as helping to answer questions of how black holes are formed.
Three other U.S. scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine on Monday, for their research on the internal biological clock.
