The US and Turkish defence ministers have spoken on the phone after the Pentagon announced it will supply weapons to the YPG in Syria to fight against Daesh.

It's unclear how Turkish Defense Minister, Fikri Isik responded but the Pentagon said both men "affirmed their support for peace and stability in Iraq and Syria."

Turkey strongly opposes any support for the YPG - the Syrian branch of the outlawed PKK - it regards the group as a terrorist organisation. US Defense Secretary James Mattis says the United States and Turkey don't necessarily agree on a path forward. But he said the two are "going to sort it out."
